Ryan Garcia and Teofimo Lopez got into it today during the kickoff press conference for the Fatal Fury event on May 2nd at Times Square in New York City.

WBO light welterweight champion Teo got tired of all the niceties exchanged throughout the press conference, which made it boring to him and many fans viewing it on social media. So, Lopez tried to liven things up with trash talking and bragging about himself, and Garcia argued back at him, saying, “That’s how we’re keeping it.

“Boring”

Lopez was looking at it from a fan perspective, feeling that the press conference was too dull, almost like an Academy Award show, where everybody just gives a bunch of thanks and spouts a bunch of pablum. The monitor of the press conference could have asked some questions to stir up the fighters, but that’s not his style.

I don’t know why it would bother Ryan that Teo wanted to liven things up, but he took issue with it. Devin Haney was quiet, saying almost nothing during the press conference. They might as well have brought in a cardboard picture of Haney and placed it in his seat because it would have amounted to the same. He had nothing to say. Without Bill Haney to talk for him, Devin was just there in body only.

Teofimo Lopez: “Hey, Turk, I am you’re champion, the Ring Magazine champion,” said Teo during today’s kickoff press conference for the Fatal Fury event on May 2nd.

Ryan Garcia: “We don’t give a f*** what you are, bro.

Teo: “I am your champion.”

Ryan: “We don’t give a f***, bro. I’m tired of hearing that s***.”

Teofimo: “You guys are so boring. You guys are talking so politely to each other.”

Ryan: “Yes, because that’s how we keeping it.”

Teofimo: “You guys are talking so politely.”

Ryan: “We’re going to run that.”

Teofimo: “Bring it in. Y’all haven’t even put the tip in yet. Ain’t nobody talking s*** right now. That’s crazy.”

Lopez is going to have to get used to the style of the press conferences because this is likely how the others will be run for the Fatal Fury card. It may come down to him singlehandedly creating energy for these events.
