Boxing News 24

Shakur Stevenson revealed his three-fight hitlist for the top lightweights in the division that he considers “the best fights” for him. Predictably, Gervonta Davis is the guy that WBC lightweight champion Shakur wants to fight the most, even though he admits he should have lost his last fight.

Shakur’s Lightweight Hitlist

  1. Gervonta Davis: He’s still #1 for Shakur, despite Newark, New Jersey native saying he thought he lost his last fight.
  2. Lamont Roach: An old sparring partner for Stevenson. He’ll likely be his next opponent, provided Turki Alalshikh is interested in a Jerry vs. Jerry-type chess match.
  3. Andy Cruz: The Cuban talent gets selected as the last choice by Shakur for obvious reasons. He’s Stevenson’s #1 threat in the 135-lb division. So, it’s obvious why he’s buried beneath Tank and Roach. Cruz would embarrass Tank, destroy the super featherweight, and do the same to Roach and Shakur.

Tank Davis has already shown that he has no interest in fighting Shakur. By now, he should realize that Davis will never fight him. If Tank wanted to, he would have done so by now, because Stevenson has been begging for that fight for three years, since 2022.

Stevenson’s Obsessive Davis Chase

It’s beyond obsessive with Shakur. He’s become a pest or stalker with the way he’s not giving up despite the apparent signs of no interest on Tank’s part. When a person is that clingy and needy, it’s a real put-off. Strangely, Shakur lacks the self-awareness to know how pushy and obnoxious he’s become with his tireless pursuit of Tank Davis.

Even before he moved up to 135, he pleaded for Gervonta to fight him. Shakur just doesn’t get it that he’s wasting his time by continually mentioning Tank in every interview. S

“I’ll take Tank, Lamont, and I like Andy Cruz,” said Shakur Stevenson to Shannon Sharp on his Night Cap channel, giving his hit list at lightweight. “I want the best fights and the most competitive fights. I them guys are the most competitive guys for me.”

Andy Cruz: Stevenson’s Top Threat

Did you notice how Shakur places Cruz last? That’s not by accident. He knows that the 2020 Olympic gold medalist Andy Cruz would ruin his status by beating him, and replacing him as one of Turki Alalshikh’s favorite fighters. As such, Shakur is never going to fight him. I’m predicting it now. He will never fight Cruz and will permanently freeze him out. He might as well be on planet Neptune as far as Shakur is concerned.

“I’d rather fight a power puncher any day than one of them type of guys,” said Shakur about preferring to fight a big puncher like Tank Davis over another volume puncher like he dealt with against William Zepeda. “The reason is, after the fight [with Zepeda], my body was done. When you fight a volume puncher, you’re getting hit on the arms and body.

“I would love that fight. I think that’s a fight to make,” said Shakur about fighting Lamont Roach. “Lamont is underrated. A lot of people don’t realize how good he really is. When I fought Oscar Valdez, I made Roach one of my main sparring partners.”

Turki’s Entertainment Concerns

The question is, will Turki “love” paying Shakur mega-millions to fight a defensive fighter like Lamont Roach in a Jerry vs. Jerry chess match on one of his cards, knowing that it won’t be entertaining? I wouldn’t if I were Turki.

“I would love to fight him. I think Lamont won 7-5, 8-4, even without the knockdown that should have been called,” said Stevenson about Roach’s fight against Gervonta Davis.
