Ryan Garcia looks rough in a picture this week with his trainer, Eddy Reynoso. Kingry (24-1, 20 KOs) looks like he’s put on some weight around his midsection nine months out of the ring since his destruction of Devin Haney last April. He will have to rededicate himself to training to lose that spare tire.

In the photo, Garcia looks like he’s had a few sleepless nights. His eyes appear weary from too many late nights. What Ryan needs is an 11-week boot camp of training and a good diet to take that weight off that he’s put on since the Haney clash. If you take away his credit cards and expensive Ferrari and send him to MCRD San Diego, it would do him good. Just suffer for 11 weeks.

More Than Just Tired

It’s unclear if Garcia has been living it up, partying with the millions he made in his victory over Haney, but he looks like he’s aged a decade since that fight. If he’s enjoying himself with expensive drink, he’s going to have to clean out and get serious with his career because he’s got a tune-up against the former paper champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero on May 2nd and then a rematch with Haney in October.

Ryan has that Errol Flynn look to him of someone who has been enjoying the nightlife of being a celebrity. Flynn burned himself out quickly and looked ancient when he hit his 40s.

The rematch details with Devin is still murky, though. Ryan’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, says the second fight with Haney is contingent on his winning his fight against Jose Ramirez. Those two are fighting on the Garcia-Romero undercard.

Garcia’s tune-up against Rolly (16-2, 13 KOs) is exactly what he needs to do right now because he needs to sharpen up to prepare for the rematch with Haney (31-0, 13 KOs). He’s going to have a whole new bag of tricks that he’s going to be using against Ryan, looking to neutralize his left hook and outbox him like he did with George Kambosos
