Boxing News 24

Ryan Garcia lit into the New York Commission on social media, reacting to their failure to reverse a no call on Gervonta Davis taking a knee in the ninth round of his fight last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Many fans felt that it should have been a knockdown and a disqualification.

Ryan wonders why the New York State Athletic Commission overturned his victory over Devin Haney on April 20th last year, taking away his win and ruling it a no contest after he was found to have the banned PED Ostarine in his system.

The No-Knockdown

He feels the Commission felt they needed to do that. Why didn’t they act on referee Steve Willis’s blown call in the ninth round when Tank Davis hit the deck after being nailed by a jab from Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs)?

The failure to make the right call cost Roach the win and the millions he would have made as the new WBA 140-lb champion. Roach wasn’t seeing the big picture of what Tank’s missed knockdown and disqualification cost him in dollars and cents. He would have made millions in a rematch as the WBA champion rather than the B-side challenger.
