Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero doesn’t feel insulted that Turki Alalshikh has already planned for Ryan Garcia to face Devin Haney in a rematch in October. Rolly (16-2, 13 KOs) says they can go ahead and fight after he beats the “s***” out of Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) on May 2nd at Times Square in New York City.
That would be a terrible way for Ryan to go into the rematch with Haney (31-0, 15 KOs). Turki hasn’t said whether the rematch can only happen if both fighters win their fights on the Fatal Fury card on May 2nd. It would look bad if they still wound up fighting if one or both lost.
Zero Concern
It wouldn’t look sporting for Haney and Ryan to fight if they lose. Maybe Turki doesn’t care how it looks. He could be just focusing on entertainment for the sake of entertainment, like Terence Crawford jumping up two divisions to challenge Canelo Alvarez for his three or four belts at super middleweight. That’s not really sports. That’s entertainment.
Whatever Turki wants to do with the Garcia-Haney fight, he can do. If he doesn’t care, I don’t think either of them will complain because they’re getting paid. If Rolly wins, he should at least get some kind of reward for his victory and not be stowed away on an undercard against someone.
“I don’t care. They can rematch after me. I’ll beat the s*** out of Ryan and they can rematch,” said Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero to Ring Magazine about his thoughts on the rematch that is supposed to happen in October between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney.
“Devin already got his a** beating. So, Ryan gets his. I’m not interested. I don’t care,” said Rolly when asked if he’d like to fight Haney if he’s victorious against Garcia.
Rolly is being disingenuous by saying he wouldn’t fight Haney if both win, and Turki offers Turki a lot of money to fight him. He’s not going to turn that down to fight for less against a less popular fighter.
