Boxing News 24

Gervonta Davis says the reason Shakur Stevenson’s promoters are “screaming” his name is because they see him as “boring” and they want to “cash out” while he’s still around. Davis states that his talk of retiring soon has made Shakur’s promoters desperate to make their money while they can.

Shakur (23-0, 11 KIOs) hasn’t been matched against anyone good since moving up to 135, and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, isn’t showing interest in matching him against anyone who threatens to beat him.

Hearn’s Rush

The mad rush that Hearn is in to get the Tank Davis fight for Shakur in his second fight of his two-fight contract reeks of a cash out, and is reminiscent of how he was in a hurry to make a fight between Edgar Berlanga and Canelo Alvarez.

After Hearn signed Berlanga as a free agent, he put him in with two tomato cans, Jason Quigely and Padraig McCrory, and then lined him up with a fight against Canelo. We’re seeing the same thing with Shakur. Feed him the electrician Padely, then Zepeda, and then push for the Tank Davis fight before Shakur gets exposed as a fake.

He fought Josh Padley in his last fight, and they’re now targeting William Zepeda, who struggled against 34-year-old Tevin Farmer last November. Hearn could match him against someone good, like Andy Cruz or Raymond Muratalla, but he doesn’t seem interested.

“You seen the fight after? The boy looked clean. It looked like he wasn’t in no fight or nothing. Facts,” said Gervonta Davis to the media about how Josh Padley’s face looked unmarked like he hadn’t been in a fight after his ninth round knockout defeat against Shakur Stevenson last Saturday night in Riyadh.

“Another thing, they’re [promoters] are tired of his a**. Nobody wants to keep watching that boring s***. That’s why they all, ‘Let me hurry up and cash him out.’ That’s basically why they keep screaming my name because they hear me saying I’m retiring.

“Why ain’t they been doing that? Why ain’t they been making these fights happen? These guys are looking regular, bro. What skills?’” said Tank, responding to him being told that he needs to ‘solve’ Shakur’s skills. “He was getting hit the other night.”

Tank Davis sees what I’ve noticed.. It’s so obvious. Shakur is boring, can’t punch, physically fragile, and is on borrowed time at lightweight. The only reason he hasn’t been beaten yet since moving up to 135 is because his promoters have been spoon feeding him.

The fighters Shakur has fought at 135:

– Josh Padley: Weak puncher
– Artem Harutyunyan: Ditto
– Edwin De Los Santos: Almost lost
– Shuichiro Yoshino

Saudi Critique

“I don’t like how this guy coming into the game, and he doesn’t know nothing about the sport,” said Gervonta Davis about Turki Alalshikh when asked if he’s not interested in fighting in Saudi Arabia. “Everybody is going over there. At first, he wasn’t even picking people that know stuff about the sport and put them in positions. He’s just saying, ‘I’m going to do this and I’m going to do that.’ You don’t know nothing about the sport.

“All money isn’t good money,” said Tank when told that Turki has ‘money.’
