Edgar Berlanga (23-1, 18 KOs) weighed in at 167.6 lbs, and his opponent Hamzah Sheeraz (21-0-1, 17 KOs) also called in at 167.6 pounds during Friday’s  DAZN PPV weigh-in for their WBC super middleweight title eliminator this Saturday, July 12th in Queens, New York.

Surprisingly, Berlanga kept it cool during the face-off and didn’t go overboard with trying to intimidate the tall 6’3″ Sheeraz. One reason, perhaps, for that is the potential of Hamzah slugging him if he’d gotten out of line. You could tell from looking at Sheeraz that he wasn’t to be played with.

Berlanga-Sheeraz Fight: DAZN PPV

Berlanga-Sheeraz will headline this Saturday night at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens. The event will be shown live on DAZN PPV. The price is $59.99.

Hamzah Sheeraz: “It’s about going through the game plan and getting it on this Saturday night,” said Hamzah at the weigh-in today. “Just doing what I do. Not getting emotionally involved and being confident in the work that I’ve done.”

The trickiest part for Sheeraz is to get through the early rounds because he won’t be comfortable initially with Berlanga’s power game. But if he can make it through the early part of the fight, he’s got an excellent chance of winning.

Edgar Berlanga: “Saturday night, it’s going to be fireworks. I’m ready to f*** this dude up. Easy work. That style from London, that s*** don’t work over here. You saw what I did to Jason Quigley with that European style. That s*** don’t work over here. We’re going to go in there and get gritty. I’m going to take him to the trenches.”

Berlanga’s Power: First Round Knockout

What Berlanga needs to do is jump on Sheeraz right from the jump, going after him in the first round with power shots. Throughout Edgar’s career, he’s been most effective when he goes for the knockout right out of the gate in the opening round.

“I’m very confident in the fight. We’re here to win, and he’ll win it. I really do believe that,” said promoter Frank Warren. “He’s cool, calm, and collected. All he needs to do in the ring is be that way in the ring. He composed and it’s high fight. He’s fighting at a weight he’s comfortable at. He was weight drained last time. A good Hamzah is really good quality fighter.
