Promoter Oscar De La Hoya said tonight Ryan Garcia is going to be a “very dangerous” fighter when he makes his ring return on May 2nd on Turki Al-Sheikh’s card in New York.

Fans aren’t buying what De La Hoya is saying about Ryan being more “dangerous” because he’s coming off a long layoff of 13 months and having tested positive for a banned PED in his last fight against Devin Haney on April 20th.

The “Dangerous” Claim

Kingry looked ragged, posing for a picture with his new trainer, Eddy Reynoso, this week. Some fans believe that he’s been partying too much since his Haney fight, enjoying the nightlife with the money he made from that match.

Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) is expected to use former WBA light welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero as a tune-up opponent, and Devin Haney vs. Jose Ramirez will be on the undercard.

Fighting a cupcake like Rolly will make Ryan look especially dangerous because this guy isn’t world class, and was knocked out last year by Isaac Cruz. A better test of whether Ryan is “dangerous” is if he were to be matched against someone good like Jose ‘Rayo’ Valenzuela or Richardson Hitchins.

“His next fight is going to be somewhere around May. We’re looking at doing big things with him,” said Oscar De La Hoya to DAZN Boxing about Ryan Garcia’s next fight in New York, coming off his year suspension. “Turki Al-Sheikh wants to put together the biggest even possible for boxing.

“We’re obviously right there with him. We can’t wait to see what Turki Al-Sheikh decides to do with Ryan Garcia and us as promoters. Ryan Garcia is ready to come back. He’s hungry, he cannot wait.

“I’m telling you, Ryan Garcia, when he boxed Devin Haney, he was a very dangerous Ryan Garcia. But this time around, now that he’s been a year off, now that he’s really hungry to get back in the ring, we’re going to see a very, very, very dangerous Ryan Garcia up in that ring whenever he fights,” said De La Hoya.
