Boxing News 24

Keyshawn Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) wasted his moment in the spotlight on Friday night calling out two champions that won’t fight him, Gervonta Davis and Vasily Lomachenko, after his fourth-round knockout win over WBO lightweight champ Denys Berinchyk (19-1, 9 KOs) at Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City.

Keyshawn is NOT going to get those fighters for three reasons:

  1. Too big for 135-lb division: Keyshawn using Weight bully tactics
  2. Not popular: No names on Keyshawn’s resume
  3. He would expect to be A-side. That won’t fly

Is Size His Only Skill?

What the whole world saw tonight was Keyshawn entering the ring as a middleweight and using that size advantage over the normal-sized lightweight Berinchyk to defeat him. If boxing had its act together, Davis would not have been allowed to enter the ring that much bigger than Berinchyk. There should have been a rehydration rule with a weight check in the evening tonight to make the fight fair.

There’s nothing wrong with a fighter wanting to balloon up to 160, just as long as they’re competing against other middleweights instead of fighting lightweights. Tank Davis and Lomachenko are not going to fight a lightweight the size of Keyshawn Davis. That’s not happening. So, he’s going to have to fight someone a little more realistic, like one of these fighters, if he insists on facing a lightweight:

– Andy Cruz
– Edwin De Los Santos
– Ernesto Mercado
– Raymond Muratalla
– Shakur Stevenson
– Abdullah Mason
– Frank Martin

These fighters may not give Keyshawn the payday he’s looking for, but at least he can get some credible names on his resume. He hasn’t fought anyone yet that had a chance of beating him.

Some of those guys would be willing to fight Keyshawn as long as it makes sense, but I doubt he’ll fight any of those guys.

“Anybody that has the [courage] to fight me. There are two 135-division champions that I would love to fight. If they got the guts to step in the ring with ‘The Businessman,’ tell them to send me a contract, or I will send them one,” said Keyshawn Davis to Top Rank Boxing after his win over Denys Berinchyk on Friday night at Madison Square Garden Theater.
