Terence Crawford says Devin Haney could be in a “Tough fight” tonight against Jose Ramirez if the former 140-lb champion fights like he “normally” does. Ryan Garcia’s left hooks destroyed Haney’s aura. Haney – Ramirez are fighting in the co-feature bout on the Fatal Fury: City of Wolves event on DAZN PPV at Times Square in New York City.

Fragile Foundation

Tonight, Crawford states that Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) will push the action to exploit Haney’s vulnerability to the power game. If Devin’s glass chin hasn’t improved since the Ryan Garcia debacle, he’s finished off by Ramirez early tonight. Jose has been working on his power game with trainer Robert Garcia, and he’s focusing on headshots.

“I think Jose Ramirez and Devin is a great fight if Jose comes motivated and come to fight like he normally do,” said Terence Crawford to Ring Magazine, previewing tonight’s fight between Jose Ramirez and Devin Haney at Times Square in New York City.

“He’s going to push the action and be there all night in Devin’s face. So, it can be a fight where Devin looks good or a fight where he’s in a tough fight because Jose is by far not an easy opponent.”

Haney’s lack of knockout power will hinder him tonight, as he will be forced to rely on clinching to go the distance to win a decision against Ramirez. Devin’s new trainer, Shane Mosley, says he taught him some new “tricks” that have increased his punching power. He predicts that Haney will KO Ramirez within seven rounds. That’s hard to believe.

The move up to welterweight could slow Haney’s speed and movement, making him vulnerable to getting hit. Getting punched a lot by Ramirez won’t be a good thing for Devin, especially if his chin has deteriorated.

The Inevitable Hit

Fans now view Haney as overrated and his unbeaten record as phoney, built with victories over paper champions George Kambosos Jr. and Regis Prograis. They note that Devin (31-0, 15 KOs) has faced only two good fighters in his career, Ryan Garcia and Vasily Lomachenko, and both beat him. However, Lomachenko lost by a controversial decision.

Bill Haney has done an admirable job of creating Devin with his promotion and skillful matchmaking. However, you can only take an inherently flawed fighter so far with smoke and mirrors. Eventually, they get found out, and we saw that last April in the Ryan fight and in Haney’s match against Lomachenko.
