Abdullah Mason (17-0, 15 KOs) will reportedly be fighting Giovanni Cabrera in a 10-round bout on April 5th. This is a step up for the Top Rank-promoted Mason from his recent victory last Friday night against Manuel Jaimes.

Thaboxingvoice is reporting that lightweight Mason, 20, will fight Cabrera (22-2, 7 KOs) in two months from now. This will be Cabrera’s first fight since being knocked out in the seventh round by William Zepeda on July 6th last year in Ontario, California.

Abdullah looked impressive last Friday, stealing the show from Keyshawn Davis vs. Denyks Berinchyk main event with his fourth-round knockout of Manuel Jaimes on the undercard. Mason dropped Jaimes four times in the fight.

This fight will show whether Mason can deal with a crafty boxer who won’t be there to be hit like most of the other 17 opponents he’s faced during his four-year career.

Mason wants to fight for a world title against one of the four champions at 135, and he says he’d not avoid fighting one of them if he were on friendly terms. Keyshawn and his friend, WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson, have been criticized in boxing for their decision not to fight each other. They don’t want to mess up their friendship.

“I feel great. I broke him down and got him out of there. Four knockdowns inside of four rounds. He went the distance with Rolly, but I got him out of there,” said Abdullah Mason to Fighthype, talking about his win over Manuel Jaimes last Friday night.

“Coming off that fight and coming into this one, we didn’t switch things up too much. We just kept doing what we did, and we got him out of there,” said Mason. “You’ve got four active world champions right now. Two of them, I’m ranked in the top 15.

“I’m hearing 10 in the WBC and 133 in WBO. Whatever title, I’ll be glad to get a chance to contend for one. The only one I’ll never fight are my blood brothers,” said Abdullah Mason when told if he has someone at lightweight that he won’t fight.
