McCumby’s Power Threatens Pacheco

The unbeaten #1 WBO super middleweight contender Pacheco (23-0, 18 KOs) is putting his ranking on the line in this fight. If he loses, he can forget about getting a title shot against undisputed champion Canelo Alvarez any time soon, if ever.

DAZN Live: Pacheco-McCumby Details

Saturday’s event will be shown live on DAZN starting at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT.  McCumby (28-1, 21 KOs) gave former IBF champion Caleb Plant problems early on in their fight last September. He dropped Plant in the fourth and hurt him on another occasion.

Plant adjusted by taking the fight to the inside and taking advantage of McCumby’s lack of skills in close. That was what turned things around for Plant. If not for McCumby’s inability to fight on the inside, he likely would have lost because he was no match for him on the outside.

“This is a man, Diego Pacheco, that we’ve been building since he was 17 years old. Now, he’s 24 years of age. Now, he’s 23-0. He’s #1 in the WBO ranking, about to be called mandatory for Canelo Alvarez,” said promoter Eddie Hearn during today’s final press conference ahead of Saturday’s event on DAZN at Frisco, Texas.

“In true Matchroom and Pacheco style, we step up to dangerous challenges. Trevor McCumby is definitely the most dangerous of Diego Pacheco’s career so far. It’s a wonderful match-up. It is the co-main event on DAZN to the main event between Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez. This is a fight that can headline anywhere in America.

McCumby’s Camp: Ready for Battle

Trevor McCumby: “I put in a tremendous training camp. I didn’t have a camp like this in a long time. It was very hard. I’ve been in the sport a long time, a long amateur career. I just feel this is my time.”

Hearn: “Is it the age, is it that you feel he [Pacheco] hasn’t been battle-tested yet? Is that what you’re relying on to take him to the trenches on Saturday night?”

McCumby: “I know he’s a good fighter. I know it’s going to be a good fight. Everybody, tune in. It’s going to be a great fight. He’s had a few fights where he’s been fed guys, and we’ll see on Saturday night.”
