Promoter Oscar De La Hoya is picking Jake Paul to defeat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in their 10-round cruiserweight headliner this Saturday, June 28th, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
It’s an easy fight to predict because the 39-year-old Chavez Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs) has fought just once in the last four years, and has lost four out of his eight fights. Chavez Jr. is nowhere near the fighter he was in 2011 when he briefly held the WBC middleweight title.
The Paul vs. Chavez Jr. event will be broadcast live on DAZN PPV this Saturday. The price is $59.99. The broadcast time is at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT.
In the chief support, WBA and WBO cruiserweight champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs) defends against Yuniel Dorticos (27-2, 25 KOs) in a 12-round contest. Fans believe this should be the main event on this card. However, Jake Paul’s massive following on Instagram, with his 28.5 million subscribers, is the reason why he’s headlining.
Schofield-Farmer Fight Analysis
“Floyd Schofield vs. Tevin Farmer, youth vs. experience. I’ve got Floyd for a late stoppage and a new star is born,” said Oscar De La Hoya on X, predicting a victory for his Golden Boy-promoted lightweight contender Floyd Schofield.
Farmer (33-8-1, 8 KOs) has an excellent chance of defeating the 22-year-old Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs) in their 10-round fight if he’s not worn down from his last three grueling fights against William Zepeda and Raymond Muratalla. He took a lot of punishment in going the distance against those fighters in defeats. If Farmer is in the same form he showed in his rematch with Zepeda last February, he’ll be victorious because Schofield is badly flawed.
“Zurdo Ramirez, unified [cruiserweight] world champion, taking on [Yuniel] Dorticos, the #1 [WBA] contender. Who will win? In an all-out war, Ramirez will win it by a fourth-round knockout,” said De La Hoya.
Many boxing fans want to know why Ramirez is defending against the 39-year-old Dorticos. The cruiserweight division is weak, with only a small handful of decent but not great fighters. The rest of them are average fighters.
De La Hoya’s Paul-Chavez Jr. Pick
“Jake Paul vs. Chavez Jr., experience or ambition? After a back-and-forth battle, Jake Paul edges it with a split decision in the twelfth. June 28th from the Honda Center, live on DAZN PPV,” said De La Hoya.
