Boxing Results: Canelo Alvarez Achieves Undisputed Super Middleweight Status, Defeating William Scull For The IBF Title In Landmark Riyadh Victory

WBA, WBC, and WBO world super middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) added the IBF title, defeating IBF champ William ‘El Indomable’ Scull (23-1, 9 KOs) by a 12-round unanimous decision to become a two-time undisputed 168-lb champion on Saturday night at The Venue in Riyadh.

In the first four rounds, it was an even bout. In the fifth round, Alvarez had an edge. In the sixth round, Scull was landing rights out-landing Alvarez. The fight seemed to be even after six.

In the seventh round, Alvarez went to the body more, giving him an edge as Scull moved around the ring more. In the eighth round, there was very little action. In the ninth round, Alvarez was landing the bigger shots.

In the tenth round, Scull had one of his best rounds. However, the fight didn’t live up to its hype. In the eleventh round, Alvarez tried lifting Scull into the air due to his frustration. In the twelfth and final round, the fans were still asking for more action. Alvarez went to the body as Scull countered him.

The scores were 115-113, 116-112, and 119-109. Kieran McCann was the referee.

Former WBC super middleweight, WBA light heavyweight, and current WBC World cruiserweight champion Badou ‘The Ripper’ Jack, 29-3-3 (17), won a disputed 12-round majority decision over Norair ‘The Dark Horse’ Mikaeljan, 27-3 (12).

In the first five rounds, it went back and forth with Mikaeljan having an edge. In the ninth round, Mikaeljan out-landed Jack for the most part.

From the tenth through the twelfth, Mikaeljan seemed to have an edge.

The scores were 114-114, 115-113, and 115-113.

Former WBC Silver super middleweight champion Jaime Munguia, 45-2 (35), beat Bruno ‘Brunello’ Surace, 26-1-2 (5), by a 12-round unanimous decision in their rematch.

In the first five rounds, Surace outlanded Munguia. In the seventh round, both had their moments as Munguia came forward and was countered by Surace. In the tenth and last round, it went back and forth.

The scores were 116-112, 116-112, and 117-111. Bob Williams was the referee.

Heavyweight Martin Bakole, 21-2-1 (15) vs. Efe Ajagba, 20-1-1 (14), ended in a 10-round majority draw.

In the first five rounds, Bakole was the aggressor. In the seventh round, Bakole had Ajagba against the ropes with a flurry of punches. In the ninth round, Bakole kept after Ajagba, asking him to stop running. In the tenth and last round, Bakole, knowing he was behind, kept the pressure on Ajagba, out-landing him.

Scores 95-95, 95-95 and 96-94 Bakole. Howard Foster was the referee.

Light heavyweight Brayan Leon, 7-0 (6), defeated Aaron Rocha Guerrero, 11-4-1 (7), by a six-round points decision. In the fourth round, Leon dropped Guerrero for an 8-count from Referee Bob Williams.

Middleweight southpaw Marco ‘Green’ Verde, 1-0 (1), stopped Michel Galvan Polina, 4-6-3 (2), at 1:34 of the first round of a six-round fight. In the first round, Verde scored a pair of knockdowns, forcing referee Bob Williams to stop the fight.

Heavyweight Richard Riakporhe, 18-1 (14), scored a fourth-round TKO of Kevin Nicolas Espindola, 9-10 (4). In the fourth round, Riakporhe scored a knockdown over Espindola for an 8-count from referee Howard Foster. Espindola couldn’t come out for the fifth round

Super featherweight Mohammed Alakel, 4-0, defeated Alexander Morales, 6-14-5 (2), by a six-round points decision. Referee Kieran McCann scored 60-54
