Keyshawn Davis reiterated today that he won’t “ever fight Shakur” Stevenson due to their brother pact. That means that Keyshawn needs to stop his quest to land a fight against the ‘Face of Boxing’ Gervonta Davis. Game over, that’s it. Keyshawn’s stubborn refusal to fight his ‘brother’ Shakur ends permanently his chances of fighting Tank.
No Shakur, No Tank
Tank set the condition yesterday for Keyshawn and Shakur to have a shot at fighting him. He said they must fight each other because neither of them has ever beaten anyone good during their careers. I don’t see what the problem is. Tank isn’t asking Keyshawn and Shakur to walk through a minefield of live mines.
When asked if he was impressed with Keyshawn (13-0, 9 KOs) recently capturing the WBO lightweight title from Denys Berinchyk, Tank dismissed the win, saying, “He’s Garbage.” He then said that Keyshawn’s promoters at Top Rank are good at matching their fighters against guys that have good records in, but are “a**” in terms of ability.
In other words, they manufacture fighters to make them look better than they actually are with soft matchmaking. Edgar Berlanga used with Top Rank and was 16-0 with 16 straight first round knockouts at one point. Keyshawn is the latest creation.
The Safe Route
Instead of fighting killers like Andy Cruz, who beat him four times, he faces Berinchyk, a 36-year-old Jose Pedraza, Miguel Madueno, and Gustavo Lemos. Do you see a pattern here? Pure Berlanga-esque matchmaking. Keyshawn has been well-protected from the jump. He knows what side his bread is buttered on, and he ain’t about to mess things up by insisting Top Rank match him against any of the killers.
“Tank must fight me or Shakur before he retires,” said Keyshawn Davis to Million Dollaz Worth of Game, clout-chasing as usual, using Gervonta Davis’ to increase his popularity without fighting anyone good to earn the fight. “Tank, either me or Shakur,” said Keyshawn continuing with his begging.
It looks like Keyshawn is basing his entire career on clout chasing Tank Davis’ name instead of trying to get a come up on his own by fighting these killers: Andy Cruz, Ernesto Mercado, Jaron Ennis, Vergil Ortiz Jr, Bakhram Murtazaliev and Janibek Alimkhanuly.
I threw in a few 154 and 160-pounders because Keyshawn blows up in weight after he rehydrates, and looks like a middleweight inside the ring for his fights at lightweight. If Keyshawn wants to become a star and not depend on making a career out of clout-chasing, he needs to fight these guys .
“When I drop Tank, don’t be surprised. He’s too small. I can punch,” said Keyshawn when asked if he thinks he would have no problems with Gervonta. “He was never been stopped. He was off his best win,” said Davis, trying to big up his last opponent, 36-year-old Denys Berinchyk on February 14th.
“I would love to fight Loma. That’s an easy fight to make. He’s with Top Rank. I just won’t ever fight Shakur. I really won’t. Money don’t make me,” said Keyshawn.
