Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney will share the stacked May 2nd ‘Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves’ card at Times Square in New York City. Garcia fights Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero in the headliner. Rolly keeps getting lucky. When his career looks like it’s over, he keeps getting opportunities for big fights. This is like a second chance for Rolly.

Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) faces the walking guillotine Jose Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) in a fight that fans on social media believe should be the main event in terms of competitiveness on paper. If Devin had the fanbase Garcia does, he’d be the top guy in this card. How Haney was trounced by Kingry last April would still make it odd to have him as the main event.

The ‘Fatal Fury’ Card

– Ryan Garcia vs. Rolando Romero: headliner

– Devin Haney vs. Jose Carlos Ramirez: Co-feature

– Teófimo López vs. Arnold Barboza

WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) finds himself off the main event, fighting his mandatory Barboza (32-0, 11 KOs). Talk about your big come downs. Lopez’s repeated poor performances since 2021 have resulted in him being placed on the undercard of Garcia-Romero. It’ll get worse for Teofimo if he loses all three fights he has on his contract with Turki Alalshikh.

Teo’s Avoidance

I wonder how Teo feels about fighting Barboza because this is a guy he’s been avoiding like the plague for the last three years. He’s never wanted to fight Barboza, but now he’s got no other choice. This could end badly for Teofimo. Barboza will make a monkey out of him if he hasn’t improved since his fight against Steve Claggett.

“In New York, we are working on that with Golden Boy. So, we’ll be out there for the press conference next week,” said Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn to Boxing Social about the May 2nd event at Times Square. “You’ve got three of the top 140, 147-lb guys, whatever you want to call them.

“You talk about wanting to appeal to that younger generation. Haney, Lopez, Ryan Garcia, it’s an amazing event, and there’s a huge amount of work to do on that event. They’re shutting down Times Square for this. It’s never been done before. It’ll probably never be done again.

“I’m looking forward to getting out. No. It’s just three fights on that card,” said Hearn when asked if he’ll have any of his fighters on the Times Square card. “Logistically, we’re involved with The Ring, [Turki Alalshikh] and everybody. So, yeah, no fighters for us on that card.”
